Dr Justice Srem-Sai has dismissed criticisms from former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame regarding the decision to drop charges against a former official of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).

Godfred Dame, acting as legal counsel for the former NAFCO Chief Executive, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, had previously characterised the discontinuation of the case as an abuse of the legal process.

Addressing the press on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Dr Srem-Sai argued that the prosecution's actions were entirely in line with established criminal protocols.

He maintained that when fresh information comes to light, the state is duty-bound to pause and reassess its position.

“You cannot just come to court when you have fresh evidence in a criminal trial and start throwing around the evidence,” he explained.

Dr Srem-Sai further noted that the accused must be given an opportunity to respond to the new findings before a final determination is made on whether to proceed with charges.

Despite the current withdrawal, the Deputy Attorney General made it clear that the state has not abandoned the matter.

He clarified that the interrogation process is a necessary bridge to determine if the new findings "will lead to a new charge or beef up the old case."

Godfred Dame's media commentary labelled unethical

The Deputy Attorney General took direct aim at Godfred Dame’s public conduct, questioning why a former occupant of the office would challenge standard investigative routines in the media.

Dr Srem-Sai described the suggestion that fresh evidence should be ignored as "completely improper and unethical."

“It is part of criminal procedure to do that whenever you have fresh evidence. I don’t know why this has become an issue for the former Attorney General, who should know better, to be lamenting across the media, making the same point,” he concluded.
