James, whose father was born in Akron, Ohio, shared that being willing to work through challenges and difficult moments ultimately makes the relationship worthwhile.

Reflecting on their journey, James said that being together since their teenage years naturally means they’ve faced ups and downs.

Living with someone for more than 20 years isn’t always easy, and disagreements are inevitable.

The NBA icon also outlined the principles he believes are essential for a lasting relationship. He emphasised that communication is vital, honesty comes next, and being comfortable with discomfort is crucial.

James added that relationships require compromise, nobody can always have things their way, and that the old saying about a happy wife leading to a happy life is absolutely true.

The 40-year-old basketball star, now entering his 23rd NBA season, has previously hinted at retirement, though he remains non-committal. In June, he revealed that Savannah is pushing him to retire within the next year or so.

After stints with Cleveland and Miami, the couple has been settled in Los Angeles since 2018, when James joined the Lakers.
