Mason Greenwood Addresses His Tumultuous Past in First Remarks Since Departing Manchester United

Mason Greenwood has addressed his tumultuous past following his departure from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old, who made headlines in 2022 due to allegations of assault involving his partner, has not played for the Premier League club since.

Greenwood spent the 2023/24 season with La Liga's Getafe and has recently signed a contract with French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille.

However, at his unveiling ceremony with Marseille, the versatile forward took the opportunity to address the ongoing controversy surrounding his past, speaking openly about the issue during his first press conference.

Greenwood speaks on his past issue

Speaking to the media at his first press conference with his new club, the 22-year-old, as reported by Sportbible, addressed questions concerning the uneventful end of his stint at Manchester United.

"I understand the questions, but I prefer not to delve into debates or controversies," Greenwood said.
"I discussed this with supporters last Thursday and addressed it last season. Now, I want to move forward and focus on being a part of Olympique de Marseille."

Expressing his enthusiasm for Marseille, Greenwood added:

"My main goal is to concentrate on football. The staff and players have told me about the club's community initiatives, including foundation work, associations, and hospital visits, and I look forward to participating in these activities."
He continued: "This season, I aim to perform well for Marseille and play in front of the fantastic fans at the Velodrome. I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity and can’t wait to play before such an amazing crowd. For now, my focus is entirely on my role with the club."

According to FotMob, Greenwood made a notable impact at Getafe last season, contributing to 16 goals in 36 appearances. He is now set to make his Ligue 1 debut for Marseille in their away fixture against Brest, at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Manchester United sets transfer record with Greenwood

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Manchester United set a new transfer record with the sale of Greenwood to Marseille.

The versatile forward was sold for a fee in the region of €29 million, which eclipses the record for the biggest transfer in the post-Alex Ferguson era.
