Christian Horner Explains McLaren’s Edge Over Red Bull Ahead of Formula 1 2024 Belgian Grand Prix

The Woking team appears to be the leading constructors on the 2024 grid, currently out-developing Red Bull Racing, which undoubtedly have held a stronghold on the ground effect era, particularly since the rule change in 2022.
However, as the Belgian Grand Prix approaches and the grid tightens, Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner, has acknowledged areas where he believes McLaren's McL38 car has an edge over his team.
Horner speaks on Mclaren's edge over Red Bull
In an interview as reported by Motorsportweek, the 51-year-old Horner acknowledged McLaren’s significant advantage over his team, noting that the MCL38 car operates within a “broader window” compared to Red Bull’s.
“I believe their car is currently in a better window than ours; it seems to have a broader operational range,” Horner said. “Our window appears quite narrow, making it challenging for both engineers and drivers.”
Horner emphasised the need to expand Red Bull’s operational window, which is highly sensitive to temperature and other factors.
“We need to enhance the car’s balance and broaden that window, and the team is acutely aware of this and working diligently to address it.”
According to Fox Sports, McLaren secured its first front-row lockout at the Austrian Grand Prix since 2021. In contrast, Red Bull experienced a frustrating race weekend, with its strategic decisions falling unexpectedly short.
The upcoming Belgian Grand Prix at Spa offers both teams a chance to demonstrate their superiority, especially given the circuit’s high-speed nature and challenging layout.
