The 33-year-old made an emotional return to his boyhood club Santos at the start of 2025, following a disastrous spell with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

But his return to Brazil has not gone as planned.

Santos currently sit 16th in the league, just one place above the relegation zone, while Neymar has endured another injury-hit campaign.

His contract only runs until the end of December, following the conclusion of the season, meaning he will be a free agent in 2026.

And with the World Cup approaching, Neymar is desperate to reignite his career and force his way into Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad.

The forward has not represented his country for over two years, with his last appearance coming in a qualifier against Uruguay, when he tore his ACL.

Although Neymar is understood to have wanted to return to Europe, Sport report that no clubs have shown serious interest in signing him.

The Spanish outlet claims he now has two choices: to sign a six-month extension with Santos or to move to the MLS.

Although Neymar's father is reportedly keen for him to stay in Brazil, the club are currently fighting to stay in the top division, meaning their future is uncertain.

One potential destination that has emerged in the United States is Inter Miami.

The move would see Neymar reunited with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with whom he formed one of the most devastating attacks in history at Barcelona, where they won the treble.

With former Barca teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets set to retire at the end of the year, Neymar could join Inter Miami as a designated player.

Rodrigo de Paul, who is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid with a mandatory buy clause at the end of the year, is set to take one designated spot.

That still leaves space for Neymar, and Inter Miami are understood to have internally discussed signing the former PSG star.

Sport also dismissed rumours linking Neymar to Italy, dismissing speculation around a possible move to either Inter Milan or Napoli.

Both Messi and Suarez's contracts with Miami are due to expire at the end of the year, but both are expected to extend their stays.

Although Suarez retired from international football in 2024, Messi is likely to defend his World Cup crown with Argentina next summer and the continuity of life in Miami is likely to appeal to him.

Inter Miami finished third in the Eastern Conference and are set to face Nashville SC in the opening round of the MLS playoffs.

The two sides will play a best-of-three series to qualify for the next round.
