US iPhone Users Set for Big Payday As Apple Agrees $250 Million Settlement Over AI Features Lawsuit

US tech giant Apple has agreed to pay some iPhone users $250 million as settlement following a class action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading customers about the availability of its artificial intelligence features.

The company was accused in a 2025 class action lawsuit of failing to deliver on two AI features branded as Apple Intelligence.

US customers who purchased all models of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15 Pro between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, would be eligible for the proposed settlement.

According to a BBC News report, Apple, in a settlement filed in California federal court on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, did not admit any wrongdoing on their part but agreed to a deal that will resolve claims in the large consolidated class action lawsuit.

How much will Apple pay iPhone users?

As part of the settlement, Apple will pay US-based iPhone customers who bought an iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 between June 2024 and March 2025, $25 per device.

Some customers could also earn as much as $95 depending on the number of claims filed and other factors, according to the legal team behind the case.

In a statement, Marni Goldberg a spokesperson for Apple said the tech giants decided to settle the matter in court to remain focused on delivering innovative products and services.

She said:

"Since the launch of Apple Intelligence, we have introduced dozens of features across many languages that are integrated across Apple’s platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built with privacy protections at every step."
"These include Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up and many more."
"Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users."

Why is Apple paying $250 million settlement?

Apple's recent legal trouble reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the company's unveiling of new AI capabilities at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in 2024, where it previewed features such as a more personalised Siri experience.

However, when the iPhone 16 launched in September 2024, many of the advertised capabilities were not available in the devices, despite being marketed as “built for Apple Intelligence.”

Apple later rolled out several AI tools in phases, including Image Playground, Genmoji, and integration with ChatGPT within Siri.

Apple warns iPhone users over fake calls

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Apple warned iPhone users over certain fake calls and text messages they could on their devices.

According to the tech giants, some scammers had targeted their Apple Pay system, which facilitated online transactions.

Apple cautioned that bad persons might gain access to people's accounts through phone calls and messages and withdraw their monies without their permission.
