As of 2019, there are close to 46 certified public education colleges in Ghana. The institutions are spread across the country for ease of accessibility by students from all walks of life. What is more, each of them is unique on their own. Even so, their objective is to sharpen the skills of their students to fit into society.

1. Jackson College of Education

Jackson learning centre is a teacher training institution that offers top-notch quality Distance Learning. The National Accreditation Board accredited the institution. It is affiliated with the University of Education, Winneba. JEC has its branches spread across Ghana for easy accessibility by its students.

2. Accra College of Education (ACE)

The ACE establishment dates back to 1909. Currently, it is among the 46 public approved learning institutions Ghana. It is affiliated to the government of Ghana. Qualified students can locate it at Eastern / Greater Accra. The objective of the institution is to remain the home of ultimate excellence. 3. Akatsi College of Education

Akatsi training centre is located in the Volta region of Ghana. It was established on October 1st, 1963. Since its establishment, it has been in the frontline in providing quality teachers training courses that have seen most graduates excel in life.

4. ADA College of Education

ADA teachers training centre is an institution accredited to the University of Cape Coast. It is located in Ada Foah in the Eastern / Greater zone. There are six departments in the institutions. It offers numerous education programs for qualified students. Its objective is to transform society through knowledge through learning.

5. Akrokerri College of Education

Akrokerri is located at Adansi West in the Ashanti region. The prestigious institution is affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Currently, the principal of the college is Dr. Emmanuel Nyamkye.

6. Wesley College of Education

It is located in the Kumasi, Ashanti region. Since its establishment in 1992, it has been headed by 12 principals. The college is known for its 3-year Diploma program in Basic Education. Soon, it is set to offer degree programs. Similar to some higher learning centres in the Ghana, it is affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

7. Offinso College of Education

As the name suggests, this higher learning centre is located in Offinso, Brong Ahafo region. Its establishment dates back to 1955. It offers a 3-year diploma in Basic Education, 4-year Diploma, and –year Certificate A under the Distance program for untrained instructors. Over the years, it has been on record for producing quality and disciplined teachers who are readily observed in the job market.

8. Enchi College of Education

Founded in 1965, the raining centre has always remained true to its mission and vision. Its major departments are; Arts and Social Sciences, General Program, Social Science, and Science Education. It is the home of prominent figures such as Sefwi-Wiawso and Nelson Ackumey. It is located in Enchi, Aowin District, in the Western region. Mr. Phillip Ntaah is the current principal of the school.

9. Mampong Technical College of Education

MAMTECH was formerly a trade training centre established by the British colony in 1922. However, in 2007, it was given accreditation by the national board to run as a tertiary higher learning centre in the Mapong Municipal in the Ashanti region. As of now, MAMTECH is boast of two major programs; Diploma in Basic Education and Special Programs. Doris Boakye-Ansah is its principal.

10. Berekum College of Education

Berekum is among the largest teachers training centre in Ghana. The institution sits on an approximately 42-hectare piece of land in the Bong- Ahafo, Ashanti region. Founded in 1952, it has made significant improvements to emerge among the best in the country. Currently, it offers bachelor’s programs and diploma courses. Discipline is key in the college, hence the higher absorption of graduates into the job market.

12. Komenda College of Education

Komenda, also known as Kemenco, is a teacher training centre affiliated to the University of Education Winneba. It is located in Komenda in Eguafo-Aberim Municipal. Currently, they offer training in 452 subjects with 300 qualified instructors. According to the college’s statistics, the capacity of the institution in 2019 is 7985. Their notable alumnus is Titus Awotwi Pratt.

13. Foso College of Education

It was first awarded the role of training teachers in 1965 by the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Since 2005, the institution has been on the frontline to providing useful Diplomas in Basic Education. Under the leadership of Dr. Nana Kwaku Asiedu, it made a major milestone a few years ago when they introduced a 4-year Bachelor of Education Program. Also, it is essential to note that it is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast. Lastly, it is located in the Asin Nothern Municipal.

14. Tamale College of Education (TACE)

TACE is an outstanding teachers training facility located along Ridge Rd, Tamale Ghana. It is renowned for nurturing teachers that match current trends in the job market. It is majorly known a female higher learning centre started in 1977. It is committed to promoting discipline and an adequately educated society. Some of the prominent people that schooled in the institution include Mrs. Margaret Andan and Miss Alice Continua.

15. Presbyterian College of Education

The institution is popularly known for producing graduates who are inspired to face real-world experiences. The facility is affiliated to Akropomg Missionary hence its strong emphasis on core values for students learning in the institution. What is more important is that graduates from PTC are easily accepted into the job market because of their discipline, competence, and professionalism skills.

16. Atebubu College of Education

Atebubu is among the few colleges established and commissioned with the task of training instructors in 1965. It is located in the Brong-Ahafo region. Since its establishment, it has had seven principals. The current principal is Wayo Zakaria.

17. Mount Mary College of Education (MMCE)

Unlike most public colleges in Ghana, MMCE was founded by catholic missionaries in 1947. However, three years later, it was moved to the Greater Accra region to offer teacher training courses to students in the area. Character and knowledge are its two core values. Dr. Cecilia Esinam Eyaa Akakpo is currently the principal in the institution. The college boasts of six 4-year B.Ed essential programs.

18. Jasikan College of Education

It is also known as JASICO. It is located in Jasikan District. It was founded in 1952. It is also known as JASICO. JASICO has six departments approved by the council. Its translated motto is “Dare to be Wise.” It is committed to becoming the best in the country through high-quality training of teachers.

19. Wiawso College of Education (WATICO)

Similar to some colleges, it first came into existence in 1952. It is located in Sefwi-Wiawso District. WATICO was formerly a training day school for teachers and priests. It is currently affiliated to the University of Cape Coast. The facility offers the best and current learning programs, making its graduates stand out from the crowd.

20. Bagabaga College of Education

The institution is located in the Northern part of Tamale. It started its operation in the country as early as 1944. It has, however, made remarkable changes over time to become among the best in Ghana. Unlike other colleges in the region, it allows students various course options to choose from.
