Galamsey: 2 dead, one severely injured after a hill close to a pit collapsed on them

The issue of illegal mining popularly known as galamsey in our local parlance has become quite a worry as the activity pollutes water bodies and depletes the green vegetation.
Most people who engage in the activity end up losing their lives as their way of mining for the precious mineral is not right.
News reading YEN.com.gh indicates that two illegal miners have died in a galamsey pit after a hill close to a galamsey sight collapsed on them.
The incident occurred at Wassa Adiembra in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
The two have been identified as Kofi China who is 30-years-old and Gyakut a 26-years-old.
Joy News report indicates that one other person also sustained severe injuries from the unfortunate incident.
The injured victim was identified as Yenu Kwaw, 26-years-old. Yaw unfortunately had all his legs broken when he was rescued.
According to the the report, the three victims were on their routine galamsey expedition on when the hill which had developed some cracks.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident said the victims were under the rubble for over two hours before they were rescued.
The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Director of NADMO Nana Kumi advised galamseyers to be safety conscious in their bid to make a living through galamsey activities.

In other news, 16 people lost their lives in an accident at Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway. It was reported that several others have sustained various degrees of injuries.
The fatality recorded was from both buses as 13 males and 3 females died on the spot.
The accident occurred around 1:30 am on Friday, February 26, after two KIA grand buses collided head-on.
