Neymar’s absence sparked debate, with the 33-year-old insisting he was overlooked for “technical reasons,” despite reports suggesting fitness concerns were behind the decision.
Speaking to ESPN, Ancelotti explained that Neymar’s selection hinges entirely on his physical condition.
“We all know about Neymar’s quality,” he said.
“But in today’s game, to make the most of his talent, he must be in top physical shape. If he gets himself into that condition, there will be no issues. I told him he still has time to prepare well and contribute to Brazil’s World Cup campaign.”
Per Goal, the former Real Madrid manager also revealed how he envisions Neymar fitting into his team.
According to Carlo Ancelotti, the ex-Barcelona and PSG star would no longer operate as a wide player.
Instead, his role would be central, either as a second striker or an attacking midfielder.
“Modern football demands physical intensity from wide players. Neymar doesn’t have to play outside; centrally, he can perform without problems,” Ancelotti added.
Neymar has already held discussions with Ancelotti about his future with the Selecao. The coach confirmed they met in June before Brazil’s clash with Paraguay, where he outlined the expectations for the star forward.

Fan reactions to Ancelotti’s Neymar warning
The news of Carlo Ancelotti questioning Neymar’s World Cup chances has sparked heated debate among Brazilian football fans.
While some supporters argue that the Santos star deserves a spot in the squad based on his talent and past contributions, others believe Ancelotti is right to prioritize fitness and consistency over reputation.
On social media, many fans backed the Italian coach’s tough stance, pointing out that Brazil cannot afford to carry unfit players in such a demanding tournament.
Others, however, fear that leaving out a player of Neymar’s quality could weaken Brazil’s chances of reclaiming the World Cup crown.

''Neymar said he didn't need to prove anything to anyone. Ancelotti showed that he needs to prove himself like any other player.''
@Toimwellington commented:
''This is the best that Ancelotti brings to the team. He has the guts to back or not call up any player. It was IMPOSSIBLE for a Brazilian coach to do this. Right or wrong, he can bench Neymar (or anyone else) and everyone has to accept it because he is too big.''
@Laics1 reacted:
''A half fit Neymar must go to the World Cup.''
