Stephen Apemah Baah Gets Emotional After NSMQ Defeat, Honoured by Quiz Organisers, Photos and Video

It was not to be for Stephen Apemah-Baah after Opoku Ware School once again fell short in the final of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
This comes after Mfantsipim Senior High School emerged as the winners of this year's edition, ahead of OWASS and St. Augustine's College.

The contest began on a competitive note as Mfantsipim School finished the first round with 20 points, while Opoku Ware School and St. Augustine’s College both had 17 points.
Things took a bad turn for OWASS in the second round, as the contest became a two-horse race. St. Augustine’s took a slim lead with 27 points, and Mfantsipim followed closely with 24 points while Opoku Ware trailed with 17.
The Kumasi-based school made a slight improvement in the third round, scoring 19 points. However, Mfantsipim staged a comeback to finish the third round as leaders with 30 points.
Mfantsipim School maintained their lead through the fourth and fifth rounds, securing victory in the 2025 NSMQ.
At the end of the contest, the winner had 56 points, St. Augustine's had 42, and Opoku Ware had 29 points.
An emotional moment, which has since gone viral, captured Stephen's sad facial expression after the quiz ended.

The brilliant young student was enveloped in sorrow as the quiz mistress mentioned the final scores.
Primetime Limited, organisers of the event, celebrated Stephen Apemah Baah's achievement in the NSMQ by presenting him with an award recognising his accomplishment and for making it to the finals on two occasions.
He was given a cash prize of 5,000 cedis in acknowledgement of his enviable achievement.
At the end of the contest, an appreciation post on the Facebook page of the NSMQ had generated over 4,000 likes and 200 comments.

Social media users who took to the comments section of the post praised Stephen Apemah Baah for his impact in the quiz.
Fred Gbagbo Jnr stated:
"It was obvious he was eaten up by the pressure. Nonetheless, he has performed exceptionally well throughout his stage appearances since his first year. It’s unfortunate things didn’t go his way, but at the end of it all, I wish him the best in his future endeavours. He’ll do great."

Abugiss NSMQ star becomes a medical doctor
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that an old student of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, Rachel Amaning Kwarteng, was celebrated after successfully graduating from a medical school.
She was a member of the 2017 NSMQ team for Aburi Girls’ SHS and was also the overall best student in the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
