Buying an SUV in Ghana does not always mean preparing more than GH¢300,000. With a budget of GH¢200,000, buyers can still find practical used models offering space, comfort and enough strength for everyday driving.

However, most vehicles within this range will be local-used or older foreign-used models. The final amount will depend heavily on the production year, mileage, trim, accident history and overall condition.

SUVs within the budget

The Hyundai Tucson is one of the strongest options available. Current listings include 2017 and 2019 models advertised around GH¢188,000 to GH¢199,000. Some local-used 2020 models have also appeared below the GH¢200,000 limit.

The Kia Sportage offers a similar combination of comfort and practicality. Several 2016 models are advertised between GH¢128,000 and GH¢190,000, while some foreign-used 2018 versions are listed around GH¢198,500 to GH¢199,000.

Buyers interested in Nissan can consider the Nissan Rogue. Depending on its condition, 2016 models are listed between roughly GH¢160,000 and GH¢198,000. Several 2018 versions are also available between GH¢180,000 and GH¢200,000.

The Ford Escape provides another wide selection. Listings show 2016 to 2018 models ranging from approximately GH¢115,000 to GH¢195,000. A local-used 2020 Escape has even been advertised at GH¢200,000.

Popular Japanese SUVs remain available, although buyers may have to accept older model years. A local-used 2010 Toyota RAV4 has been advertised around GH¢145,000, while a 2015 Honda CR-V has appeared at GH¢180,000.

Other options include the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, advertised around GH¢190,000, and the larger 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe, which has appeared at the full GH¢200,000 mark.

Inspect before making payment

A low price should not be the only reason for choosing an SUV. Buyers must reserve part of their money for insurance, registration, servicing and possible repairs after purchase.

Before paying, take the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The engine, gearbox, suspension, air-conditioning and electronic systems should be inspected. A diagnostic scan may also expose faults that will not appear during a short test drive.
