WLWT5 reports that about 98% of students in the local schools rely on cheap or free lunches from their learning institutions, which is not available when the schools close for holidays.

Fundraising since 2015

For Parker, she always wanted to be a teacher since her childhood and would set up her teddy bears as if they were students.

She teaches 400 students and never fails to let them know how she loves and believes in them.

She started her campaign in 2015 after one parent confided in her about her inability to provide for her child during the holidays.

In December 2015, parker sent messages to all her contacts asking if they would like to donate to the needy kids.

She raised Ghc818 in her first year, and in 2020 she was able to raise a whopping Ghc338,356. She broke that record by raising double the amount in 2021.

Parker said her cause made her cry a little nearly every day as she did not expect such overwhelming support.

About 60 volunteers joined parker in buying food from local markets and took days to pack the bags and deliver them to schools before December 11.

Teacher gives beds to needy kids

In another touching story, a teacher, Rebekah Wilson, used her last four years to donate beds, mattresses, pillows, and cover cloths to 1400 children who did not have them.

Daily Mail reports that the 33-year-old teacher started her foundation, Zarach, in 2017 when one of her English class students opened up to her about how he and his junior ones had to sleep on the bare floor for many months because there was no bed.

Aside from that, another student lost focus in school because he was always scratching his stomach from bed bug bites on the cushioned chair he slept in every night.

Rebekah said that children will not get a good education that will allow them to break their cycle of poverty if they are always deprived of a good night's sleep.

Speaking about the prevalence of bed poverty in Leeds, UK, the 33-year-old revealed that she had delivered beds to almost every postal code address in the city.

The woman has raised thousands of pounds in fighting child poverty in the city since she started her NGO.
