Chinese Student at GIS Receives Recognition Following Exceptional IGCSE Results

A student at the Ghana International School (GIS), Qi, has made headlines after achieving an extraordinary academic feat in the 2025 IGCSE examinations.

The brilliant student from China scored 11 A's, highlighting her stellar performance in a wide range of subjects. This was indeed a rare accomplishment by a learner across top-tier international schools.
The subjects in question included Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, Economics, Literature in English, and three languages — English, Chinese, and Spanish.
What made Qi’s story even more inspiring was that English is not her first language. When she joined GIS in the primary section, she reportedly spoke almost no English, but surprisingly, she aced Literature in English and English Language at the highest level.

GIS Chinese student aces 11 IGCSE subjects
According to GIS, most students are typically offered 8 or 9 subjects at the IGCSE level, making her 11-subject, 11-A's achievement even more remarkable.
IGCSE is recognised globally as one of the most rigorous secondary school qualifications, requiring academic depth, critical thinking, and consistency.

Scoring even a few A's is considered an impressive feat, but achieving 11 A's places Qi in the elite performance category.
Beyond academics, Qi has also made a name for herself in co-curricular activities. She had:
- Won Gold medals in the VANDA Science Olympiad and the Maths Olympiad
- Participated as a debater and a Model United Nations (MUN) delegate
- Volunteered at various school programmes and events
The school described her as a well-rounded student who has demonstrated discipline, resilience, and the ability to fully embrace the opportunities offered at GIS.
“Qi’s success is a shining example of a student who combines self-discipline and an awareness of the opportunities available in GIS to excel,” the school shared.

KNUST student wins Project Green competition
YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) won the 2024 Project Green Competition. His victory made him the first Ghanaian to win the award.
By becoming the Project Green Challenge Champion, Godfred Owusu becomes the third African to win the competition.
On April 19, 2025, Godfred presented his project on climate action and inclusive environmental solutions at the PGC Global Finals on Zoom and emerged as the 2024 Champion.
