Government’s plan to tackle dumsor
The government says it is taking steps to tackle the power cuts that have been disrupting daily life for homes and businesses across the country.
The Ministry of Energy has announced an 18-month intervention programme expected to cost at least GH¢4 billion. The plan is aimed at improving the reliability of Ghana’s power supply and reducing the frequent outages.
As part of the first phase, 11 power station transformers will be installed across the Greater Accra Region, with another 30 transformers expected to be deployed within the same period.
The second phase, which is expected to take between three and six months, will focus on replacing about 2,000 deteriorated electricity poles in various parts of the country.
The final phase will tackle some of the major weaknesses in the country’s power infrastructure. About GH¢2 billion has been earmarked for work on 33-kilovolt feeders and other regional system upgrades, with the work expected to be completed within 18 months.
Energy Minister explains what is behind the recent dumsor
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh wrote about Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has pointed to a temporary technical arrangement at the Akosombo power plant as the main reason behind the recent intermittent blackouts.
According to the minister, the temporary control system was introduced after a fire and explosion at the GRIDCo substation at Akosombo in April.
