"When Karanja signed the contract to go work in Dubai, we had been married for one year and nine months and had a small baby of seven months. I asked him if we could agree about it, but he refused, saying that there was nothing to agree about since he wasn't even sure that there was a job where he was going," said Cecelia.

What is hydrocephalus?

"I told him 'I have seen the papers and know you already have a job.' He insisted on going to the airport with a friend, but I told him I had to go along with them. I wanted him to see the impact that the hydrocephalus condition was having on the baby," she shared.

According to the Mayo Clinic, hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in cavities called ventricles deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain.

The couple had been given some meds that reduced the swelling, and the child started getting better. They were advised to stop the treatment to see if the condition was hiding any sickness.

A month later, the head was swollen once again.

"They did an operation, but his head continued to swell and he had to be rushed for another operation where a shunt was inserted into his head. The brain, spine, knees and cognitive abilities had already been damaged," said Cecelia.

Cecilia's child used to have a lot of health problems because of his condition, and one time when she had taken the baby to hospital, she dropped some money. A doctor picked it up and took it to her.

"He started treating the child, and eventually, the young boy started sitting up. He, however, started reacting like a man and forced himself on me. I kept quiet because he had been taking care of the child," she said.

"Later on I was seen as immoral but no one put themselves in my shoes to see why my husband left me as a young wife. I never got love and acceptance from him and his people. My mother said 'I gave you out to that man and he has never called me to say that you are coming back,' " She added.

Cecilia admitted that later on, the doctor stole her heart; one thing led to another, and she got pregnant.

"I never knew anything about him, and he ran away. I was so stressed, and he asked me to go have the baby removed at Tigoni Hospital but it wasn't successful," she said.

"My husband's day of arrival came, and we went with my pastor to pick him up. We arrived at the church, and I told him that the doctor had taken advantage of me because of the ailing child. My husband tore his clothes and said, 'let me go and die," Ceceilia revealed.

After talking and yelling, Karanja accepted that he had left Cecilia with a sick child and was never responsible for them. He asked for time to think.

"The following day, our relatives were called, and we went to the children's department and to the chief's place; they chased me away and took my child. I know God's judgment will come for my kids, especially the oldest," she said.
"Since 2013, my pastor only called me in 2020 when my husband died. My husband never talked to me since he took the baby away from me on December 4," the mum of three narrated.

In 2015, Karanja brought her divorce papers because he wanted to marry a church member, but that never came to pass.

"The doctor and the chief told me they would only help me if I go back to having relationships with them," she said.

Cecelia is now asking for justice for her children; she wants the firstborn to be taken to a special school and the others to be helped by their fathers. She is also a good saleslady and is looking for a job.
