Manhyia Announces Date for the Late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III's Final Funeral Rites

The Manhyia Palace has announced the funeral programme for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The funeral rites for the late Asante Queen Mother take place from September 15 to 18, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

According to the official programme sighted on social media, a filing past will be held between September 15 and September 17, 2025, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Media reports have suggested that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, will sit in state from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day to receive mourners.

On September 18, 2025, the filing past will run from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the burial service at 3 p.m.

The funeral rites will be a celebration of the life and legacy of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The Asanteman and the broader Ghanaian community are expected to pay their last respects to the revered queen mother.

Programme outlined for late Asantehemaa's funeral

The sequence of attendance, as captured in the programme outline for the Asantehemaa's final funeral rites, is as follows:

  • Monday, September 15: Churches, religious leaders, political parties, educational institutions, NGOs, telecommunications companies, corporate entities, recognised associations, and the general public.
  • Tuesday, September 16: The judiciary and Ghana Bar, security agencies, Ghana Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Prisons Service, Immigration, Customs, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), public officials, financial institutions, and the general public.
  • Wednesday, September 17: Ministers of State, the diplomatic corps, Members of Parliament, MMDCEs, non-Asante chiefs, mining companies, and the general public.
  • Thursday, September 18: The Presidency, former presidents and vice presidents, the diplomatic corps, and the general public.

Asanteman council announces Asantehemaa death

The Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, passed away at the age of 98. The Asantehene officially announced her death following an urgent meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council.

A one-week memorial for the late Asantehemaa took place on August 21, 2025. Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the 14th Asantehemaa and the sister of the reigning Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

She was enthroned as Asantehemaa on February 6, 2017, succeeding the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Born in 1927 at the Benyaade Shrine in Merdan, Kumasi, during the restoration of the Asante Confederacy, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the daughter of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who served as Asantehemaa from 1977 to 2016.

Her father, Opanin Kofi Fofie, was a carpenter from Besease near Atimatim, Kumasi.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh also reported that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was said to have gotten outwardly emotional after the Asantehemaa's demise.

In a video from a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace, the revered king fought back tears as he mourned his late sister.

Whilst announcing the news of his sister's death, the Asantehene looked overwhelmed with emotions and saddened at her passing.
