Suspended Premier League Referee David Coote Under Investigation for Alleged Betting Breach
- The FA is investigating David Coote after he allegedly discussed giving a yellow card before a match with a friend
- Coote was suspended earlier this month after he allegedly made derogatory comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp
- The 42-year-old has denied the claims, but his latest predicament puts the integrity of Premier League referee in question
The problems of suspended Premier League referee David Coote got bigger after the Football Association (FA) launched another investigation.
Coote is also under investigation by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and UEFA earlier this month after a video emerged of him making derogatory remarks.
The 42-year-old is one of the most experienced referees in England, but his future in the Premier League is in serious jeopardy.
According to The Athletic, the FA is investigating Coote after allegations that he discussed handing out a yellow card with a friend in a Championship match.
The allegation emerged on Tuesday night in England and is connected to a yellow card given to Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski by Coote.
The Macedonia international was booked in their Championship clash against West Bromwich Albion in October 2019.
The report adds that Coote accepted the chat had taken place but refuted claims that something inappropriate happened, including benefitting financially from it.
The defender was booked late in the match, and the reports highlighted it seemed routine. Coote reportedly refuted the claim.
“I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations,” Coote said. “Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life they have never affected my decision-making on the field. I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.”
Reports also recently surfaced of Coote snorting white powder during the Euros, per BBC.
Premier League referee suspended
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that David Coote has been suspended after a video emerged of him ranting foul-mouthedly against Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.
In the video, David Coote was heard making derogatory remarks. The bombshell video was seemingly shot years ago, with Coote accusing Klopp of lying after the match between Liverpool and Burnley in 2020.
Premier League legends on Coote video
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, and Ian Wright shared their thoughts on Coote's predicament.
Keane and Neville agreed that Coote shouldn't be fired but receive a suspension, while Carragher and Wright don't see how Coote can work in the Premier League again.
