The Buckingham Palace spokesperson has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalised on Wednesday night for preliminary investigations after cancelling a planned trip to Northern Ireland within the week.

What happened to Queen Elizabeth

The spokesperson also confirmed that the 95-year-old monarch was returned to Windsor Castle on Thursday where she's getting rest as advised by her doctors.

"Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits," read part of the spokesperson's statement.

According to a report carried by CNN, the Queen was supposed to attend a church service in the city of Armagh on Thursday, marking the centenary of partition and Northern Ireland's foundation but abruptly cancelled the trip due to medical reasons.

A source also spoke to the international news network and said the queen's one night stay in hospital was because the doctors wanted to take a more cautious approach and that she's back at her desk but will only be taking up lighter tasks.

Queen Elizabeth is, however, expected to attend the Climate Change conference happing in Glasgow later this month.

Queen seen maskless at event

In a different story, YEN.com.gh reported the Queen was spotted maskless while attending an event, shortly after getting her second jab.

She was in attendance during the marking of the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force at the CWGC Air Forces Memorial in Surrey which is just a short distance away from Windsor Castle.

The royal family had confirmed that the queen and her late husband Prince Philip received their first jab in January.

According to them, the monarch's reaction towards the shot was that it was not painful at all.
