ICA Ghana registration forms, deadlines, past questions

Education is vital for anyone that deems to be regarded as an expert in any profession. This is the case, especially for occupations such as Accounting in Ghana. With so many people wishing to study the course and become certified accountants, the Government of Ghana established ICA as an oversight body to regulate and certify public accountants whose desire is to carry out audits in the country.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana established by an act of parliament and carries the mandate to vet and give the accreditation to qualified persons. Important to note, ICA registration is carried out twice in a year. Once you have passed the exams, you are recognized as a certified accountant and can practice accounting in Ghana.

If you desire to register as a student, you need to send your application to express interest in ICA Ghana. This is possible by accessing the ICAG portal and going through the requirements.

You can also apply for exemptions as you make your registration to the institution. Successful applicants are required to pay a registration fee of GH¢150.00 and subscription of GH¢150.00.

Applicants who are qualified for exemptions also pay an exemption fee. For SSSCE/GBCE/DBS holders, you need to have six passes (A-D) including Mathematics and English). For WASSCE holders, you need to have six credits, including Mathematics and English.

Here are some of the requirements that one should meet during the registration;

  • Submission of application in person
  • Photocopy of any birth identity (passport, national ID, birth certificate, NHIS ID, etc.)
  • Three passport size photographs
  • Original transcript for graduates
  • Original and photocopy of the educational certificate(s)
  • Submission of application by post
  • Photocopy of any birth identity (passport, national ID, birth certificate, NHIS ID, etc.)
  • Three passport size photographs
  • Original transcript for graduates
  • Photocopy of education certificate(s) must be certified

ICAG student portal

Once you are successfully registered, you can access the student portal. There are two options to access the portal which include;

  1. Being an existing ICAG Student with a valid student registration number. If you are already registered on the portal, you can log in by feeding either your email/mobile no. /student no. and password. You can also request for a password reset if you have forgotten yours.
  2. If you are not an existing ICAG student and have no student registration number, you can fill in your details as a first-time registration. Some of the details that you will be required to fill include your title, surname, other names, gender, job title, mobile number, and email address.

ICA Ghana courses

ICAG provides examinations for two main programmes which include;

  1. Chartered Accountant (CA) Professional programme
  2. Accounting Technician Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA) programme held for students within the sub-region.

Once a student completes the ICAG Ghana professional programme, obtains the required working experience, and the ICAG council approves them, they are eligible to use the designatory letter CA after their name.

Successful completion of the ATSWA programme qualifies one to take up middle-level managerial jobs. Once also becomes eligible to pursue the CA professional programme and later qualify as chartered accountants.

The students are tested on technical knowledge and skills that professional accountants should possess.

Examination requirements

Exams are held in May and November every year. This means that students are required to apply to sit for examinations at least two months to the date of the examination, which is the deadline. Exams registration opens in February for May exams and August for November exams.

  • Students are required to complete and submit an examination form before the examination date.
  • Students receive an authority to sit confirming receipt of examination form.
  • Approval forms or admission forms are sent to eligible candidates and include the location of the examination centres and their examination index numbers.
  • Students without proper identification are referred to the examination supervisor to check their eligibility against the master list.
  • Students are expected to indicate only their student number on their answer booklet for anonymity.
  • Students are required to enter the examination room 30 minutes before the start of the examination.
  • Late entry is up to the first 30 minutes after the examination has commenced.
  • Exit and re-entry of examination room are permissible only in the case of emergencies or officially excused exits such as restroom visits for which students are accompanied.
  • Candidates are required to sign-out and surrender examination material before they leave to room, even if they intend to return.
  • Students are required to sign-in before their materials are re-issued to them.
  • Examination malpractice
  • Any student found to have misconducted themselves in any way in the course of the examination would be severely penalized.

Candidates with disabilities

Special consideration is given to accommodate candidates with disabilities. However, the considerations provided do not alter the measurement of the skill or knowledge the examination intends to test.

ICA Ghana exams results

Once the results are out, you can access your performance results through the official website by visiting the examination results portal and filling the following data;

  • Student number or index number, examination period
  • Examination period

ICAG past questions

One of the ways the institution ensures that it provides quality education is by giving students access to past examination questions and solutions. You can access the ICA past questions and give yourself an upper hand in passing the examinations.

ICA fees

Successful applicants are required to pay a registration fee of GH¢150.00 and subscription of GH¢150.00. For CA-level 1 exemptions, one is required to pay GH¢300.00 for each paper, and GH¢350.00 for CA-level 2 exemptions per paper.

For examinations, a student is required to pay GH¢180.00 for each paper in CA-level 1, GH¢280.00 for each paper in CA-level 2, and GH¢300.00 for CA-level 3. As a local student, you are liable to receive three copies of confirmation or transcripts for free, while overseas students pay GH¢50.00.

ICA Ghana is headed by eleven executive members who are also chartered accountants certified by the body. Four of the members are elected by the Government in the election year, while the remaining seven members go through a voting procedure during the annual general meeting.
