His passion and love for football kick-started when he was at the University. He became the club representative for the Upper West Heroes football team. The renowned former GFA president qualified as a reputable corporate lawyer. He was lucky enough to join the First Atlantic Bank, where he worked for several years. Also, he held the position of legal adviser for the King Faisal football club.

Career

Nyantakyi joined the Executive Council of Ghana League Clubs Association. After a while, he found it fit to contest for the position of Vice-Chairman. His opponent for the position was Alhaji Karim, one of his employers. Interesting to note, he won the elections and took up the position of GHALCA Vice Chairman. Since it was automatic that if one was the Vice Chairman of GHALCA, you also became the Vice Chairman of GFA by default, Kwesi took up the position as well.

In 2005, he ascended to the position of GFA President after the then Chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakhloe, resigned in May 2005. This was after the court allowed that the GFA Executive Council could move ahead and impeach him since he had failed to attend any of the sittings. The members of the council voted of having no confidence in him. This paved the way for GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi to move up the ladder and became the acting Chairman. In 2005, he won the elections and officially became the Chairman.

It is worth noting that under his leadership, the Ghana team qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2006. The team also qualified in 2010, which was held in both Brazil and South Africa. In 2009, the Ghana team also had victory in the Under 20 World Cup football match.

In 2011, Amos Adamu, the WAFU president, was suspended from his position, and Kwesi was appointed as the acting President before the elections were held. Kwesi Nyantakyi resigns

He was then forced to resign from various football federations, including GFA, FIFA, WAFU, and CAF. This came after he was issued with a 90-month ban to pave the way for investigations into his case. He was found guilty of breaching the governing ethics, conflict of interest, and corruption and was given a life ban by FIFA as well as a fine of CHF 500,000.
