The actor was born on 2nd May 1972 in Hayward, California, USA. Dwayne is the son of Ata Johnson (mother), and Rocky Johnson (father) a former professional wrestler.

Dwayne Johnson mom is Samoan. She is the adopted daughter of Peter Maivia. Dwayne Johnson father was a black Canadian from Nova Scotia. He was part of the first black tag team champions in the history of WWE.

After the termination of his career as a football player, Dwayne decided to pursue professional wrestling. Pat Patterson got Dwayne to different tryout matches. He defeated The Brooklyn Brawler in one game and lost to Owen Hart and Chris Candido.
