Dr Likee Remembers His Old Life of Crime: "My Best Friends Are in Prison"

Ghanaian actor Dr Likee has shed light on how life used to be for him before venturing into acting.

Until his foray into filmmaking, Dr Likee said he used to be a hardened criminal in Kumasi.
In a recent interview, he talked about his old life of crime with deep regret. Speaking to Gunshot TV, Dr Likee established that he was involved in various criminal activities, including illegal mining and smuggling.
According to Dr Likee, he's travelled to Libya several times for life-threatening activities.
In Libya, the actor said he experienced a near-death encounter while he was engaging in an illegal activity.
"We were four in Libya. They caught three people and gunned them down, but they let me go," he said.
The renowned Kumawood star said he was not proud of his past, hence his decision to share his story as a way of motivating others.
Speaking to YEN.com.gh, entertainment analyst Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh weighed in on Dr Likee's story, saying,
"Dr Likee is one of the most important success stories in the Ghanaian movie industry, considering how he adapted to the digital disruption that left many of his colleagues from the old generation behind. Hearing about his past life, you can understand why he chooses to empower the youngsters around him."
Dr Likee cries for his friends in prison
In a portion of his interview, Dr Likee reflected on how most of his friends had either died or were in prison.
"I had a friend who killed a businessman and made away with his $30k in 1991," Dr Likee narrated.
"Some of my friends were so hard that they could give a notice before robbery and follow through with it just as they advertised.. All my friends have been handed life prison sentences. They were hard criminals, but you will never realise" he added.
While the actor made a huge living off crime, he noted that it was a regretful path, hence his reason to share his story as a way to motivate others to give up before it's too late.
Dr Likee joins Gas to celebrate Homowo
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Dr Likee had joined in this year's Homowo Festival celebrations by the Ga ethnic group.
In what appears to be an installation, he was seen holding a big bowl of food on a moving truck branded with the Ghana flag.
The annual festival commemorates the resilience of the tribe during a famine and a subsequent harvest that saved them.
