Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who has Ghanaian roots through his parents, is facing online backlash after photos showing off his luxurious vacation lifestyle began circulating widely.

Mainoo made England's 2026 World Cup squad after a standout 2025-26 season, helping Manchester United finish third in the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League under new manager Michael Carrick.
Despite earning his place in the squad, he did not play a single minute at the tournament, one of only three outfield England players who failed to feature at all as the Three Lions reached the semi-final before losing to Argentina.
Fans criticise Mainoo's vacation photos
Photos of Mainoo relaxing during his time off, including shots beside supercars and inside a private jet cabin, were shared online by football account Centredevils, captioned simply:
"Kobbie Mainoo on instagram. 😎"
The post quickly drew criticism from some fans who felt his lifestyle clashed with his lack of playing time at the World Cup.
The images of Mainoo's vacation, which were widely circulated on X, are below.
Some critics argued he should already be back in training, given his limited World Cup involvement. Kekes wrote:
"Brother, get your a$$ back to Carrington ASAP! You need to be match-fit and absolutely starving to own that MUFC midfield once the season starts."
cooltoad07 was more direct, commenting:
"See what this clown is doing. You didn't play a minute at the World Cup, you should be in the squad already training. You better have a good season bcos the fans will turn on you quick."
BRODA SEGUN added sarcastically:

Other fans defend Mainoo's time off
Not everyone agreed with the criticism, with several fans pushing back on the idea that Mainoo owed anyone an explanation for how he spent his break.

"Why people making a big deal about him cutting his time off to come back to training, he has his 21 days he should enjoy it and then come back we need to stop this nonsense that some of us are creating, when he plays he plays so let him rest, rejuvenate and come back"

Mainoo has been handed a three-week break before rejoining Manchester United's pre-season, and is expected to link up with the squad for the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg or the subsequent training camp in Ireland.
