The founder and president of the Angel Group of Companies, Dr Kwaku Oteng, has opened up about the health struggles of the late Kumasi-based businessman Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben.

Speaking during a phone interview on Angel TV’s morning programme, Dr Oteng revealed that the Kessben Media founder suffered a stroke before his death.

News of the respected businessman’s passing emerged on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The Kessben Group later confirmed the news in an official statement, explaining that its founder had died the previous night.

Dr Oteng recalls last meeting with Kessben

Dr Oteng said the last time he saw Kessben in person was during the funeral of highlife musician Kofi Job’s mother-in-law.

According to him, he noticed during the gathering that something was not right with his colleague. He later learnt that the media and business mogul had suffered a stroke.

The development reportedly left Dr Oteng deeply worried. He explained that he subsequently made efforts to regularly check on Kessben in Kumasi as he battled the condition.

Dr Oteng spoke emotionally while recalling the difficult period and the pain he felt after learning about his colleague’s health.

However, he did not disclose when the stroke occurred or provide further information about the treatment Kessben received. He also did not state that the condition was the confirmed cause of his death.

Stephen Boateng was a prominent figure in Ghana’s business and media industries, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
