A 12-year-old Ghanaian boy who relocated to Canada with his family has sadly passed away.

This comes after the boy, known as Damilola Afolabi, was said to have drowned on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Mahogany Lake.

A video sighted by YEN.com.gh showed the father of the young boy, Jubreel Afolabi, being comforted as he was joined by loved ones on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to lay his son to rest.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the burial, Jubreel Afolabi, who could not contain his tears, expressed sorrow over the passing of his son as he recounted how happy Damilola was about relocating to Canada.

As a parent, Jubreel said he never imagined being the one to bury his son and vowed to forever cherish his memory even though he is no more.

“When we were about to leave Ghana, Dami said, ‘Daddy, thank you for the good life you are going to give us in Canada,’” said Jubreel. “I didn’t know that my son would never be with me at this moment anymore.”
“I wish my sons would be the ones to bury me and not the other way around,” he added.

Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support the family of the late Ghanaian boy during this difficult period.

Social media users have expressed condolences to the grieving family of the young boy.
