Ashanti Regional Minister Hails Ken Agyapong as NPP's Next Presidential Candidate

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has tipped Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the next presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking at the National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum (NELEF) held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr Amoakohene addressed Kennedy Agyapong as the flagbearer of the NPP.

"The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, former leaders present here, I bring you greetings from the Garden City of West Africa, the Ashanti Region, for that matter," he said.
The Ashanti Regional Minister's reference to Kennedy Agyapong as the NPP's next flagbearer was met with a rapturous response from the gathering at the NELEF event.
Following this, Dr Frank Amoakohene took to his Facebook page to ask whether his reference to Kennedy Agyapong as the NPP's presidential candidate was prophetic or hermeneutic.

Kennedy Agyapong seeks to lead the NPP
Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, is seeking to lead the NPP as a flagbearer for the 2028 presidential elections in Ghana.
The politician and businessman has filed his nomination to contest the flagbearer race slated for January 31, 2026.
He has also kick-started a nationwide campaign tour, seeking to convince delegates of the NPP to vote for him in the presidential primary.
Kennedy Agyapong will be contesting against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana's former Vice President and NPP's 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwi and former Minister for Education, and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former General Secretary of the party.
Prophet declares victory for Kennedy Agyapong
Meanwhile, the General Overseer of Spiritlife Revival Ministries, Bishop Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, has prophesied that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong will emerge victorious in the NPP flagbearer contest.
In a post on X, Bishop Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, during a church service, said God had revealed to him that Kennedy Agyapong would be the next presidential candidate of the NPP.
“I’m telling you again that me, the Lord, told me that Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong will become the flagbearer of the NPP after their primaries. Do you know the threats they gave me during the 2024 elections? Ask them whether I ran," the man of God reportedly said.

Kennedy Agyapong criticises Ghana's trips to IMF
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Kennedy Agyapong reiterated his commitment to a self-reliant economy.
Agyapong criticised Ghana's trips to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as being a losing strategy.
Agyapong has started a unity tour to ensure that all grassroots members of the NPP come on board ahead of the 2028 general elections.
