The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has appointed all four of his former presidential primary rivals as co-chairpersons of newly created party policy committees, in what is being viewed as a major unity and strategy move ahead of Election 2028.
The initiative introduces a structured policy framework aimed at strengthening the party’s ability to develop evidence-based alternatives across key governance and economic sectors, positioning the NPP as a more policy-driven opposition.

Oppong Nkrumah leads central committee
At the top of the arrangement is the NPP Policy Committee, chaired by former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, with Dr Kwasi Nyame Baafi serving as Secretary to provide technical and administrative support.

The committee will oversee sub-committees covering employment, energy, education, health, roads and transport, decentralisation, land resources and the economy, among others.
Each is expected to produce data-backed policy proposals for party leadership review.
Bawumia assigns roles to former rivals
Dr Bawumia has integrated his former internal competitors into leadership positions within the policy structure.
Kennedy Agyapong will co-chair the Employment and Jobs Committee, while Kwabena Agyei Agyapong heads Housing and Urban Development.
Dr Bryan Acheampong takes charge of Defence and Interior, and Yaw Osei Adutwum leads the Education Committee.
NPP closes ranks ahead of 2028
Party insiders say the move is designed to transform internal competition into collective policy strength, uniting different support bases under one framework.
The committees are expected to begin work immediately, with stakeholder engagements and sector briefings to follow.
The development has been widely welcomed within the NPP as a step towards reconciliation and stronger opposition preparation ahead of the 2028 elections.
