"I Spent GH¢4 Million": Elubo Demolition Victim Breaks Silence After Video Goes Viral

The Jomoro Municipal Assembly has demolished a storey building in Elubo, Western Region, after the owner allegedly constructed it without the required permit and too close to a major highway.
Officials from the Assembly, supported by the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), carried out the demolition on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Elubo building constructed during leadership gap
The structure belonged to Isaac Kwame Agyapong Aninkrorah. Work on it began in 2024 and continued into 2025, a period during which the Jomoro Municipality had no substantive Municipal Chief Executive in place.
Speaking to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, Daniel Kaku, on Friday, August 7, 2026, MCE Benedict Boadi explained that he was confirmed by Assembly Members on Thursday, May 8, 2025, and only heard about the construction after assuming office.
Boadi, who was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, said the building's location near the Ghana-Côte d'Ivoire border presented a clear danger to road users.
"The building is very close to the highway near the border. It poses a serious danger and could cause havoc in future," he said.
According to Boadi, the Assembly issued a stop-work notice to the owner, which was disregarded. The owner allegedly continued construction under cover of night.
"I went there, saw the project and directed my staff to write to him to stop the work. But this man did not mind us. He used the nights to continue. We had a security meeting and it was agreed that the building should be pulled down, and we did it," Boadi said.
He added that he would not allow any structure to be raised along roads without proper authorisation, regardless of what previous administrations had permitted.

Elubo demolition victim allegedly spent over GH¢4 Million
Aninkrorah, also speaking to GhanaWeb on August 7, 2026, said the demolition had left him devastated, claiming the project cost him more than GH¢4 million.
He argued that he had built his first house with offices on the same plot in 2006 and that when the Elubo-Agona Nkwanta road was upgraded in 2015, his property was not affected and no compensation was offered to him.
In 2024, he said he sought and received permission from the late Chief of Elubo to extend the building by adding rooms to its forecourt.
He also applied to the Lands Commission in Sekondi to register the plot, and was told the Commission had requested comments from the Jomoro Assembly, though he says he never received a response before construction began.
Aninkrorah further alleged that towards the end of 2025, he met Benedict Boadi personally to follow up and was encouraged to proceed. Boadi categorically denied ever granting such permission.

Some Elubo residents also directed criticism at former MCE Louisa Arde, accusing her of failing to act while the encroachment was taking place.
The Jomoro Municipal Assembly has since urged all residents and developers to obtain approval from the Physical Planning Department before starting any construction project.

The post drew strong reactions from Ghanaians, with several commenters focusing on the owner's compliance with building regulations.
@Sam Krist raised the fundamental question many were asking:

Security at Laboma beach ahead of demolition
Earlier, YEN.com.gh wrote about prior to the scheduled operation, security forces, including police and military officers, who were positioned at Laboma Beach on Friday.
The demolition effort, which targets unapproved structures causing floods, is being spearheaded by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council.
The operation comes after the severe floods on June 29, which led to previous demolitions and cleanup efforts throughout the capital.
