US unemployment up even as hiring beats expectations in delayed report

The US jobless rate crept up in September even as hiring exceeded analyst expectations, according to a delayed employment report published Thursday after a record-long government shutdown. The overall hiring figure was higher than analysts expected, with surveys of economists by Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal expecting job gains of 50,000 instead.

Clothing items sold by Asian e-commerce giant Shein contain dangerous chemicals at levels well in excess of EU rules, Greenpeace charged in a report published on Thursday. Greenpeace Germany said 18 clothing items out of 56 that it sent for testing "contained dangerous chemicals that exceed the limits in the EU's REACH chemical regulation, sometimes severely".
