US firms up $6.2 bn Micron funding to boost chipmaking

US President Joe Biden's administration finalized nearly $6.2 billion in funding for Micron Technology on Tuesday, firming up a deal to boost domestic semiconductor production before Donald Trump returns to the White House. The Micron investment helps bring development and production of advanced memory semiconductor technology to US shores, said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

UK government departments must find efficiency savings of five percent, finance minister Rachel Reeves insisted Tuesday, vowing to take an "iron fist" to public-spending waste. "I have no doubt that we can find efficiency savings within government spending of five percent and I'm determined to do so," Reeves said during a visit to a hospital.
