Her comments were in response to questions about some municipal officials who issued permits allowing private developers to construct in unauthorised areas.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister's comments were met with condemnation from many, including the Minority caucus in Parliament, former flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah, and prominent members of her own party, the NDC.
Some leaders from the five northern regions also formally demanded her resignation or sacking of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, labelling her statements as a slur against their heritage.

Serwaa criticised the Ghanaian parliament over its handling of Linda Ocloo's vetting process in 2025.
She noted that a proper vetting process would have shown the Greater Accra Regional Minister's issues.
She said:
"Parliament did us a great disservice by not vetting her because I think that we would have seen all of these things. Before people say I am against women in governance and feminism, what is wrong is wrong."
