Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a renowned educational institution located in Kumasi, Ghana. The university has consistently upheld its commitment to providing high-quality science, technology, and innovative education.

Key facts

KNUST was founded in 1952 as the Kumasi College of Technology, with its roots in the Government Training School established in 1949.

In 1961, the institution was renamed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in honor of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. It was initially known as Kumasi College of Technology.

KNUST was granted full university status in 1961 and has since expanded its academic programs and infrastructure.

The university is accredited by the National Accreditation Board of Ghana and recognized by international accreditation bodies.

Courses offered at KNUST

KNUST consists of six colleges: the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Art and Built Environment, the College of Engineering, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the College of Science.

General requirements for KNUST admission

Students wanting to pursue undergraduate programs should meet any of the following minimum/general entry requirements.

A student must have credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science) and CREDIT passes in three WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or its equivalent relevant to the chosen program with aggregate 24 or better.

  1. Holders of GCE/IGCSE must have FIVE credits at the ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics (or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least THREE (3) subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits in the case of mature applicants.
  2. Holders of GBCE must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects, including English
  3. Language and passes in THREE Elective Subjects, including Business Mathematics.
