However, reports indicate that the late former finance minister's husband passed away in Lagos State on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

In a public statement released on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the family described the deceased as a devout Christian whose life was marked by integrity, generosity, hard work and service to God.

The statement read:

"It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr. Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos."

The family acknowledged the late Nigerian businessman's personal qualities and achievements while appealing to the public for privacy to mourn and plan his funeral arrangements.

The deceased is survived by his wife, former Minister of Finance Mrs Kemi Adeosun, his children, his siblings, including the Founder of Kuramo Capital, Mr Adewale (Wale) Adeosun, and many other relatives, friends and associates.

Kemi Adeosun's time as finance minister

Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria's Minister of Finance under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2018.

During her tenure, she was widely recognised for her work on fiscal policy and economic reform.

She resigned in September 2018 following controversy over the authenticity of her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.

Anthony Adeosun had been a steadfast presence beside her throughout her public career.
