Manhyia Rejects Apology From Mona Gucci And Afia Pokua, Duo Banished Over Otumfuo Comments

Representatives of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, have rejected Mona Gucci and Afia Pokua's apology to the King.

The two visited Manhyia to apologise in person following controversial statements about the Asantehene on a live show.

Afia Pokua criticised Otumfuo on Mona Gucci's show

Appearing as a panellist on Onua TV's show hosted by Mona Gucci, Afia Pokua had criticised the Otumfuo over the galamsey issue.

The Kasapa FM and Agoo TV personality also called out the King for 'staying quiet' while his people verbally attacked the Dormaahene.

Her criticism triggered an angry response from the Asantes and other Ghanaians, who deemed it a show of disrespect to Otumfuo.

Afia Pokua later released a statement apologising for her conduct but was still summoned to face a panel at Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo's rep rejects Afia Pokua's apology

After hours of pleading, including kneeling in prostration, Otumfuo's representative rejected Mona Gucci and Afia Pokua's apology.

Despite the intervention of an elder who noted that Pokua had been particularly heartfelt, a 'sorry' was not deemed as enough.

Otumfuo's representative suggested that some offences required the individual to bear the full consequences of their actions.

"Who do you think you are to disrespect the Otumfuo? If you think you’ve grown wings, don’t aim them at Kumasi. You claim to be from Kwahu, yet even they separated from the Ashanti Kingdom. They speak our language.
“Take your cursed self and your troubles with you. Whatever comes your way in the future, deal with it on your own. Do not ever return here,” the representative said vehemently.

Otumfuo insults: netizens react to verdict

YEN.com.gh has collated some of the reactions from Ghanaians on social media after Mona Gucci and Afia Pokua's apology to Otumfuo was rejected.

"The bitter truth hurts. The Ashanti Kingdom must take accountability for their failures and mismanagement. Stop bullying the poor girl."

"God sef the accept apology. Without God mercy you and I no go dey here, why do human beings finds it difficult to forgive."

Asanteman youth condemns disrespect towards Otumfuo

YEN.com.gh also recently reported that Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci were summoned to the Manhyia Palace over recent comments about Otumfuo.

Both media personalities were made to kneel and also faced a barrage of questions from the traditional authority on behalf of the Asantehene.
