Kudus finally scores his first Spurs goal
Kudus, who has arguably been Tottenham’s standout performer this season, needed seven games to open his account.
When the opportunity came, he seized it with calm precision. After capitalising on a Leeds defender’s hesitation, he surged toward goal and unleashed a low shot that deflected slightly before rippling the net.
Kudus' goal restored Spurs’ lead after Noah Okafor had cancelled out Mathys Tel’s opener, which the Nima-born star also played a part in creating.
Watch Kudus' goal:
It wasn’t just about the goal; Kudus, named in Otto Addo's 24-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers, was at the centre of nearly every Tottenham attack, constantly troubling the Leeds defence with his pace and technical flair.
His winner marked his first goal for the club and his fifth direct contribution of the campaign, including four assists, per Transfermarkt.
Below are Kudus' impressive statistics in the Premier League so far:
Only Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo (both with nine) boast more goal involvements at this stage of the season.
The 25-year-old’s composure under pressure reflected his growing confidence within Ange Postecoglou’s setup.
Despite waiting until October to score, he looked sharp and assured throughout — attributes his manager was quick to recognise.
“It’s about time [Kudus scored]!” said Postecoglou after the match. “We have big expectations for him. He’s been good for us — I would say our best attacking player so far this season,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Wayne Rooney hails Kudus
Former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney echoed that sentiment on BBC’s Match of the Day (MOTD).
He praised Kudus’ all-round display, describing him as a “breath of fresh air.”
Rooney highlighted his dominance in several key metrics, including duels won, successful dribbles, shots, touches in the box, and sprints.
“Spurs have spent a bit of money and now have a lot of strength in depth with plenty of attacking options, but I think Kudus has been the best of their new signings,” Rooney added.
“He’s brought a different aspect to the team, both on and off the ball. He’s an exciting player — quick, strong, and works hard.”
Watch the assessment from the BBC's MOTD pundits:
After a stellar outing that earned him the Player of the Match award, Kudus will now switch focus to international duty.
