Alfred Obeng: NPP MP Justifies "I Have Enough Dollars To Pay Delegates" Comment On Leaked Audio

The NPP Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai in the Western North Region, Alfred Obeng Boateng, has defended his recent comments on a leaked tape.

In the leaked audio that has now gone viral, the former BOST MP can be heard expressing his willingness to provide financial support to delegates in his constituency to match any offers from his political contenders.

Obeng Boateng stated that he is prepared to offer as much as GH¢20,000 to each of the over 2000 delegates in the area during the party's parliamentary primaries scheduled for February 2024.

He emphasised that he has ample financial resources in dollars to match or exceed any potential offers from his competitors.

However, in a conversation with Citi News about the leaked audio tape, Obeng Boateng justified his comments and clarified that he intended to pay more than what others might offer, but not necessarily double the amount.

He also highlighted that some portions of the tape had been doctored.

Furthermore, he emphasised that he had kept his money in dollars and reiterated that there was no wrongdoing in having dollar accounts.

He pointed out that the possession of dollars should not be misconstrued as hoarding or illegal activity.

Obeng Boateng firmly asserted that his statements were intended as a deterrent against potential competition and not as an attempt to purchase votes.

He believes that his comments did not warrant investigation by any regulatory agency such as the Special Prosecutor.

According to him, his remarks underscore his financial preparedness for the upcoming campaign and his commitment to securing the support of delegates in his constituency.

Eugene Arhin to contest Awutu Senya West NPP Parliamentary primary

In a separate story, YEN.com.gh the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, will contest the Awutu Senya West constituency NPP primary.

Arhin formally declared his intent to contest the Awutu Senya West constituency seat in a post on Facebook.

The aspirant said he will continue to support the NPP in the constituency even if he loses the primary.

Dome-Kwabenya MP appeals to NPP delegates to renew her mandate

Also, Sarah Adwoa Safo disclosed plans to contest the Dome-Kwabenya seat, appealing to delegates to remember her during the upcoming primaries.

She said in a video published on X that she remains committed to pushing for the best interest of her constituents.
