The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has expressed disappointment in his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for failing to develop the Ashanti Region, its political stronghold.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the young legislator, who is also the former Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, admitted that the NPP failed to honour its campaign promises to the Ashanti Region.

"I recently drove through the Suame roundabout, and the whole place looks dirty. The NPP was in power for eight years, and we always claim that the Ashanti Region is our stronghold, yet we could not complete any significant project for Asanteman," he lamented.

He consequently pleaded with the people of the Ashanti Region to forgive the NPP for disappointing them.

"The people of Asanteman, please forgive us. At the time, some of us did not wield enough influence in the party, but I'm promising that, God willing, if the NPP returns to power, some of us will make sure the NPP develops the Ashanti Region," he pleaded.

According to the Old Tafo MP, the NPP did not lose the 2024 elections because they presented a Muslim candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as claimed by some people.

He explained instead that the majority of the people in the Ashanti Region, particularly the youth, did not vote for the party because they felt disillusioned.
