NHIS Ghana, district offices, registration and contacts
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a health insurance scheme established by the government of Ghana. Its purpose is to provide impartial access and financial coverage in areas relating to basic health care services to Ghanaians. Founded in 2003, the NHIS Ghana is set up to ensure that every citizen of Ghana has a unified place where they contribute fund and access the same later. This will serve as a support in case they have health challenges. Based on the purpose of its establishment, there are NHIS offices that cut across the 10 regions of the country. This is to ensure that members and prospective ones have easy access to the Scheme.
Under the Scheme, there is a variety of services like outpatient and inpatient services, oral health service, eye care services, and maternity care that members have access to. In case of an emergency such as a road traffic accident, industrial and workplace accidents, registered members can benefit from the Scheme.
NHIS Ghana registration
Ghanaians who would like to benefit from the NHIS are expected to be members of the Scheme. The scheme’s membership registration follows a number of processes such as going through an interview to ascertain the kind of membership such prospective member wants to register for. The person will also have to fill out a registration form and provide some personal documents.
NHIS Ghana offices
Apart from the regional offices that are established in the 10 territorial regions of Ghana, there are also more than 150 district offices that are strategically located under these regions. These district offices also serve as NHIS registration offices. By implication, members can register and also renew their membership for the Scheme at any of these district offices.
