His late father, Agya Bonsu, passed away on April 9, 2021, after he was rushed to a hospital at Bosomoe in Kumasi. Bishop Obinim started his ministry at a younger age, focusing on faith healing and prophetic preaching.

The pastor has also faced accusations of fraud and other misconduct. For instance, in 2015, the pastor was arrested by the Tema Regional Police for allegedly defrauding a man of GH¢11.6 million. In 2020, he was also charged with offenses of false news and forgery of documents contrary to sections but granted a Ghc 100,000 bail.
