Thousands of Cubans turned out on Friday to bid a final farewell to 14 firefighters killed while battling a blaze at a fuel depot this month. The 14 were honored Friday on the second of two days of national mourning announced by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who offered his condolences via Twitter Thursday to loved ones of "these brave Cubans."

At least 19 civilians were killed during two separate incidents in the latest flare-up of violence along Syria's northern border with Turkey, a war monitor said on Friday. Violence between Turkey and Syria's Kurds escalated this week with a deadly Turkish strike killing 17 regime and Kurdish fighters in retaliation for Kurdish fire inside Turkey.
