Chad has accepted the principle of an international inquiry "as soon as possible" to shed light on the deaths of some 50 people at anti-regime protests, the prime minister told AFP on Tuesday. "Various partners of Chad wanted this and we have immediately agreed," said prime minister Saleh Kebzabo.

DR Congo's military used newly deployed jets to bombard M23 positions in the east of the country on Tuesday, officials said, with some residents of rebel-held territory fleeing across the border. On Tuesday, a Congolese security official who asked for anonymity said war planes were bombarding the rebel-held Tchanzu area of North Kivu and would continue "all day".
